The artistic project entitled ‘On the Movements and Habits’ was commissioned by the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg and designed by Gilles Pegel. Formatio was awarded the challenge of bringing the artist’s vision was to life. Although the project was a divergence from our typical business operations, we relished the chance to challenge ourselves with this project which fitted firmly into our ‘LABS’ category.
The original design and output from the artist was a miniature representation of what was destined to become a larger concrete sculpture approximately 100 times the size. The design was inspired by an old, corrugated telephone cable, which we 3D scanned and applied digital scaling.
The result was a 25-meter-long concrete sculpture, with specialized algorithms employed for geometric planning and a robust formwork substructure system for concreting.
A total of 400 free-form elements and 3465 substructure parts were milled, assembled, and transported to Luxembourg, where they were anchored to foundations.
This interdisciplinary project seamlessly blends art and technology, showcasing a unique public sculpture that reflects both creativity and technical precision.
